About
Dr. Lajoie is originally from California, where she received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Her interest in preventative care and holistic medicine led her to Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York where she completed both Medical School and a concurrent Master's of Science in Human Nutrition. She then completed her internship and residency in General Surgery at Montefiore and SUNY Downstate, respectively, where she developed interests in limb salvage, cerebrovascular, and aortic disease. She completed her fellowship in Vascular & Endovascular Surgery at Rutgers University Hospital in Newark/Hackensack University Hospital in New Jersey. She is double Board Certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery and is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation for Vascular Ultrasound. Dr. Lajoie joined Florida Heart & Vascular Care in 2019 after initially practicing in Washington DC, where she was faculty at Georgetown University School of Medicine as well as the Division Chief of Vascular Surgery, Director of the Vascular Lab, and Co-PI for the VOYAGER-PAD clinical trial at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center. She is dedicated to graduate and postgraduate medical education currently holding appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor for Nova Southeastern University College of Allopathic Medicine and as core faculty for the Aventura Hospital & Medical Center site general surgery residency program. In addition to her teaching and mentoring to physicians in training, Dr. Lajoie has also spoken on the local, regional, and national level to educate General and Vascular Surgeons as well as authored numerous chapters in textbooks including the premier textbook for Vascular Surgeons, Rutherford's Vascular Surgery. At Aventura Hospital & Medical Center, Dr. Lajoie has continued her dedication to limb salvage, where she is the Co-Director of the Limb Preservation Program, and performs both minimally-invasive endovascular procedures including stents as well as open bypass procedures for patients with peripheral arterial disease who have ulcers or gangrene. Through this program, patient's even in their 80s and 90s are treated for diabetic ulcers and gangrene without major amputation, improving their quality of life and allowing them to remain ambulatory and independently living at home. With regard to aortic disease, Dr. Lajoie is one of only a few surgeons in the South Florida area providing minimally-invasive endovascular treatment for aortic aneurysms and dissections, treating patients from Miami-Dade, Broward, Collier, and Monroe counties. Her other interests include caring for patients with carotid body tumors, kidney failure requiring hemodialysis access, and cerebrovascular disease for stroke prevention and treatment.
